Aerodyne Research, Inc., Principal Scientist, 2001-present – responsibilities include designing instruments to detect and characterize fine particles in the atmosphere that are now recognized as concerns for climate and public health.

Acting/Interim President, January-October 2001 – responsibilities included leading a team of eight vice presidents; working with faculty, staff and student committees to produce a balanced operating budget; restoring shared governance; directing development of an emergency response plan; maintaining fund-raising momentum during the transition period; speaking at alumni events throughout the country; and producing a plan for a smooth transition for the next president.

Provost and Dean of the Faculty, 1997-2001 – responsibilities included hiring 36 new tenure-track faculty with a significant increase in diversity; building trust among faculty and administrators; supervising academic deans, department chairs and program directors and working with them on curriculum, long-range planning and research funding proposals; securing an HHMI grant for the college and laying the groundwork for other major grant proposals; producing a comprehensive annual list of faculty accomplishments; improving the quality of grant proposals for the college’s academic programs.
