In pursuing a career in theater and the arts, I have embarked upon a year long journey in constructing a virtual world that will work to accurately represent lights, costumes, and set cohesively on a stage. The costumes I intend to design cover four major areas of costume: Elizabethan, Dance, Rock and Roll, and Modern dress. Each of these categories of costume design have certain material attributes that makes them unique. Therefore, one will expect to see a difference of how the light interacts with different material compositions. The same applies to the set. My three materials for set consist of opaque, transparent, and reflective surfaces. The user interface will allow the user to control the color gel that a normal lighting instrument would use as well as the intensity of the light as controlled by the light board. There will be a way to rotate the costumes so as to see the different styles interact with the lighting and set design. The set will move in a similar fashion fading from one design into the another.
By creating this progam, I hope to help theater designers avoid the constant need of working and re-working designs they have constructed because they do not work cohesively with the other design materials or colors on the stage. Not only will this save time but also money spent to buy different materials, gel, fabric, etc.
The interactivity of the program I have designed is important because it will allow the user to take their own time in understanding color mixing theories of light and pigment and allow them to create something uniquely their own.
