Andrea Wollensak works with and redefines the technologies of location, exploring the convergence of place, identity and history through site-specific art works. Working from a background in Graphic Design and New Media, Wollensak finds enabling and artistically expressive possibilities just below the surface of Global Positioning System (GPS) and similar technologies. Incorporating community, memory and local historical narratives, her work has been exhibited in Argentina, Australia, England, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Canada, and many places within the United States. Currently a visiting artist at the Weir Farm in Wilton, Connecticut working on an audiovisual site project, Wollensak has also been an artist-in-residence at Saint-Lo, France (2003), Rockefeller Study and Conference Center in Bellagio, Italy (2000), Lorient, France (2000), and the Banff Centre for the Arts in Canada (1996).
Andrea Wollensak is an Associate Professor and teaches the Design Studies courses in the Art Department at Connecticut College. She is the Co-Associate Director of Events at the Ammerman Center for Arts and Technology and coordinates the colloquia lecture series and curates the technology exhibition for the biennial symposium.
