super duper update

dedicated blog readers. of which im sure there are plenty of (dry humor doesn't come across well in blog entries). its time for a 2010 update.

life is hectic. record label has turned into record label and television production company. record label and television production company has turned into record label, television production company, and possibly future film production company.

on that front, the super duper media conglomerate as it is now unofficially called has three main projects in the streamline for this summer.

first and perhaps most related to conn is a CD put out by an all CC band, Shake the Baron. check them out on facebook (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Shake-the-Baron/206860484136), twitter (http://www.twitter.com/shakethebaron) and soon their own website (http://www.shakethebaron.com)

the other two unfortunately I have to speak about more cryptically.

one project is a hip hop comedy compilation CD with hilarious raps from a variety of artists including some of which have been featured on SNL, Comedy Central specials, and local NYC comedy shows, including performances at the Upright Citizens Brigade.

the second project is a television pilot for a hilarious situational comedy. the pilot will be shot in march and shopped around to various networks and submitted in various independent television festivals.

be sure to check out the new super duper websites that will launch soon, at www.superduperrecords.com

that is pretty much an update on the situation that is my life. my businesses have taken over my life, aka I have finally transitioned out of the college portion of my life.

stay tuned for more.

super duper records

www.superduperrecords.com

after awhile its finally here. the label officially launched in the beginning of november. as you can tell by going to the website, its still getting off the ground. more info is available at the superduperrecords facebook page.

to give you a lil rundown the label is an all-digital (with a few vinyl exceptions) focused on artist's rights. artists will have more creative freedom and be able to reap greater economic benefits from their music due to the unique structure of the label.

as of now our only announced release will be on new years day (an EP of mashup songs). however, more artists will be annouced in the coming weeks which will give a clearer picture of the style and future of the label.

check it out.

salutations from mexico

hola amigos. i am blogging from the riviera maya down in mexico and it is beautiful. it has been a long time since i have written and a lot has transpired since then.

a major part of the delay in blogging has been due to the hectic nature of life. the first year of law school transpired and it went well. since it ended in may ive been working at an entertainment law firm in nyc. the experience has been amazing, educational, awesome, and stressful all at the same time. working there for almost two months now i have learned more from that time about the practical nature of law than my entire first year at law school.

the other major event in my life is my decision to finally pursue my dream, aka my record label is finally getting off the ground. the label, name to be announced once its officially trademarked, will be an all digital label focusing on electronic and alternative music (all digital with a few vinyl releases). the most important part of the label, however, will be its focus; the label will be focused on the most important thing in music the artist and creativity. rather than striving on being a major label making lots of money. the label will be focused on giving the artist a venue to release music that they want to. as you can tell im very excited about it and naturally will keep you all updated on future releases from artists.

well readers thats my life at this point. now if you excuse me i have to go sit on the beach and soak up the sun. what a life.

Awful Waffle! Awful Waffle!

so i figured before i got into my standard rant about politics and what's wrong with society today i would actually oblige the purpose of this blog and update you about my life after connecticut college.

law school is ongoing and fun as ever, sarcasm doesn't come across well through written word. this week marks my first week back since spring break, which was uneventful but relaxing and needed. before break i had to hand in an appellate brief, which was my grandest legal writing assignment today. in basic everyday terms i had to write what an attorney would argue for a case on appeal. i thought i did well, but only time will tell. now that im back i have two weeks of classes left before a two week study period and then exams (aka what determines my grades for the semester)

in addition to law school i am continuing my ongoing plan to dominate all forms of medium in society. as i have mentioned in previous entries i am currently working on a grand music experimental project. i've been working on this project for some months now, but it often takes a necessary back seat to my legal studies. with the summer rapidly approaching however i am hoping i can dedicate more time to it. i haven't told you what the it is yet but i know your holding on to the edge of your seat with excitement. without going into too much detail (ill save that for a later entry) im attempting a live DJ/music performance/mashup type thingy (very descriptive i know). ill be combining tracks from popular/electronic/indie artists (like a traditional DJ) with live percussion, keyboards, and vocals (someone elses, not mine don't worry). it's hard to draw parallels to an existent performer, but the people i can most think i'd "mimic" (if you can call it that) is TRV$ DJAM (travis barker and DJ AM) and PNAU (awesome australian band). it'll be awesome and groovy tunes for your ears so i'll post more about it as it progresses.

i did say however id be tackling all forms of medium. in addition to my music endeavors i had a random stroke of genius the other day while sitting in my apartment. this stroke of genius after about five hours turned into about 100 pages of a script. and not to inflate my own ego more than it already is id say its a pretty damn good script so far. its a summer type movie akin to "wet hot american summer" but it focuses on a specific group/entity as in "waiting". more to come later, but so far ill say i have all the funny scenes written out (all flowing out of the creative spark), now i just have to write the actual substance (aka boring shit to make a story as opposed to a movie being an hour of funny shit that doesn't connect, aka a long episode of family guy). that would then complete my film producer aspiration (the DJing thing would fulfill the music producer goal).

okay before i ramble about my life anymore, time for a small political/social rant. it'll be short as i just realized ive already written a lot not on purpose. if i had to give a name to this little rant itd have to be "the quiet before the storm". that's what i think we're experiencing right now. im not simply talking about a horrendous economic outlook, im talking about the world/the united states/society as a whole. soaking in what has happened in the past few months i think society and the government are on a downward spiral that is going to take all of us with it (and these ideas aren't the product of watching too much crazy glenn beck). although some might say we've hit rock bottom in the economy, shit is looking up, the stimulus is gonna work, that might be nice but there's no evidence to support any of those claims. instead i see an angry nation, and an angry nation is a dangerous thing. a class war is coming and although it is not the sole product of the government, i think they had a major supporting role in bringing about its inception. the differences among "social classes" has been "exposed" (if you can call it that) and many groups are inciting a revolt amongst the "poor, underrepresented, and minorities" (i use quotations because those individuals the groups are referring to are way more than what the groups are stereotyping them out to be). per my early political/social rants, socialism does not work. in no society is everyone equal, in no existence can all people actually be totally equal and have the same amount of power, same amount of money, same amount of responsibility, same amount of influence, same amount of governance. its impossible. its a great idea, it'd be a perfect utopia, but it is just that a nonexistent utopia. and my friends there is evidence to support that. look at any society that has tried to institute a socialist society. (see what i did there, i said there was no evidence to support ludicrous claims before, then i made a logical assertion and supported it with a claim of evidence, id provide the actual evidence but then my entry would be really long, and you can all look it up, here ill give you one example to get you going Zimbabwe or the soviet union, that's actually two examples)

okay thats enough crazy talk from me for one day. ill reappear in a couple of weeks with more exciting nonsense for you all to decipher until then. ill leave you with an animation from arrested development (godzilla!!)

oh and five points for anyone who recognized awful waffle! was from salute your shorts.

A Socialist Valentines

firstly happy valentines day to all (and a happy birthday to mother zampella). it is currently winter break for pace law school, so im enjoying some quiet time not reading appellate briefs until the wee hours of the night. unfortunately i have a feeling break will end sooner rather than later, but hopefully as the semester has already flown by so fast, the rest of the semester should progress at the same pace. i have also been busy with my musical endeavors on the side, but there will be more about that in other posts. for now though back to valentines day.

unfortunately for many individuals in todays troubling times it is not exactly the happiest valentines day. despite a national outcry Congress has decided to pass a massive nearly 800 something page stimulus bill that will force people like me, my fellow bloggers, and America's youth to pay back over 1 trillion dollars ($1,000,000,000,000 in case you've never seen it before). for years to come my generation will be forced to suffer the debt incurred by the passing of this bill. Now one must remember this is simply the first of the many expensive bills that are going to be passed by Congress to fix our economy; in addition to the recently passed stimulus bill, the White House will soon be announcing a bill to fix the housing/mortgage crisis as well as a bill to fix the banking crisis, and rest assured neither of these will be cheap.

now i understand our economy is in trouble and needs a fix but useless spending will not fix it. while many of the programs included in the stimulus bills are worthwhile programs, they should go through the appropriate means to implement them as opposed to piling them into a rushed bill. speaking of rushed bills, how many of our elected representatives in Congress do you believe actually read the stimulus bill that was printed the night before it was voted on and is 800 something pages long; some Congressional leaders have even admitted that neither they nor their staff were able to read the entire bill before it was voted on.

now if the stimulus bill is meant to help all Americans who are hurting in the economy, why do many of the programs place limits on who they apply to and why are many of the programs aimed toward specific demographics. the economic crisis has widespread effects. not only is Joe Just Lost His Job Smith suffering but so is Sally Generic Middle Name McGee. our government has slowly began to lay the groundwork for America to turn into a socialist nation. wealth has become a hot topic in America with the economic crisis and there is the misconstrued impression that the wealthy sitting on their high and mighty cloud are not affected. i admit that perhaps Joe Just Lost His Job Smith might be in more dire financial needs, but it is important to remember the economic crisis affects us all. taking 250,000 dollars from Monty Moneybags and giving it to Sally Generic Middle Name McGee will help Sally but hurt Monty, yet we look the other way about hurting Monty because hes done well for himself, he should be able to do well again.

now i understand some of you might be thinking hey this is supposed to be a blog about life after connecticut college for these recent graduates. heres the big shocker of the whole thing, this is life after connecticut college (aka the real world). politics have often been lost on the younger generation (yes a broad generalization, don't hate). it is time to wake up and realize politics and what goes on in Washington affects each and every one of us so we should be paying attention and voicing our opinions so that our nation, founded on the principles of democracy, continues to thrive and does not wilt away.

It's Arrested Development

So I'm watching the news the other day and the anchorwoman says "parents stay tuned, important information regarding child safety you don't want to miss coming up after the break". i thought to myself well what if some really neglectful horrible parent was watching the news at that point. they would not want to stay tuned, in fact they would probably want to miss that information. my odd story has a point surprisingly.

basically ive come to the realization that the news media and parts of the political structure in washington have a skewed view of reality. perhaps my example was an extreme, but for the most part the media/politicians have a horribly misguided perspective of the average american. of course there are polls and other methods of accumulating a "consensus" of the average american opinion, but as any educated individual, even the pollsters themselves, will tell you most national polling is horribly inaccurate in reality. the issue with the media is more perhaps my contention with how pol sulture shapes our society (which will be a rant for another day), but more to my point lets use the stimulus bill currently facing the Senate as an example. The Democratic politicians (mostly House Democrats) for some reason think the American people will be okay with spending billions of their hard-earned tax money on paying for outlandish programs that should not be considered stimulus such as $600 million for the federal government to buy new cars, or $400 million for chlamydia and HIV testing, or even $150 million for restoring the Smithsonian. While some may argue that these are worthwhile endeavors they are not stimulus spending, nor would the average hard-working American want to pay hundreds or thousands of more of their hard-earned money towards their funding. Now I urge you that this is not some partisan rant against the stimulus bill. I used the House Democrats as an example for politicians having a skewed perception of the American people because they authored the stimulus bill which is a currently the hotbed of contention in Washington. There are many Republicans and others in Washington who also have a misperception of Americans, but currently the Democrats are the best example of ignoring the actual realization of the average hard-working American. This was a realization/rant about the media and politicians, not a political point of view.

So that was my little rant. I hope you enjoyed. Perhaps the title ties into the rant, maybe that's why I used it, or perhaps it's because I'm in the middle of rewatching all of Arrested Development (yes first year law students are swamped with work but, technically one could argue the whole story of Arrested Development involves a battle within legal system so it can be written off as legal research.....hilarious legal research). Either way it works.

Today I Shot A Horde of Gerbils

I lied. I did not shoot a horde of gerbils, but I thought it would be interesting to start with a controversial bang. I also wanted to include my masterful knowledge of names of collections of animals not commonly known (did you know a large gathering of alligators is known as a congregation of alligators? or what about a smack of jellyfish?)

After graduating from Connecticut College last year I immediately knew what I wanted to do and set out to begin my life (which you’ll hear more about later). So lets see, besides my awe-inspiring knowledge of useless facts, I guess you’ll need to know I collect tiny plastic figurines of all currently-seated members of Congress, I want to tattoo my entire arm like a robot’s (obviously, so that I look half robot and half man), I am a 1L law student at Pace Law School whose ready for a battle, I was the original inspiration for the A-Team, and I have a rabbit who can go into a hat and come out as a dove. One of those personal characteristics about myself is true, the others not entirely true. I’ll leave you all to guess which is which until the next entry. It’ll be a fun sort of game.

I would like to thank Chulu for giving me the opportunity to ramble on about my life on a forum that doesn’t have a name ending with Anonymous (it’s a joke kids, except for the thanking Chulu part, that was genuine). As for now though I must go back to the books and read captivating briefs about criminal and property law (that can be considered a hint to next week’s answer)
