The Kamel Kwintet Homepage

Yes, indeed, these are the illustrious members of the Kamel Kwintet (1997/98 model), bedecked for Make We Noise, I mean, Make We Joy. The Green stuff on our horns is actually ivy, if you are curious.

At this poing, members included Costya (aka: Chris Portante) on the left, playing (or rather, holding) a euphonium, at top Danny (Killer) Spurr, also on euphonium. At the bottom is Jenn (the Jewel) Platt with trumpet, in the center is the lowly and humble Brenda Johnstone, and on the right the Beauteous Sonja Kassal, who (along with her french horn) is destined to fame and fortune at the Cleaveland Institute of Music. We will miss you Sonja!

We would love to do gigs in the greater New London area. If you are interested please, please e-mail the official Kamel Kwintet e-mail at: kkwintet@conncoll.edu. We are now, in case you are interested, an official student organization on campus (no longer do we have to break into Cummings in blackest night to illicitly rehearse). The real boon of that is that we have (ta-da) an official phone number and address. Our phone number is: (860)439-5747. Our address is:

Box 4948 Connecticut College
270 Mohegan Ave.
New London, CT 06320

Our current repitoire includes the anonymous (and unpronounceable) Die Bankelsangerleider, Pachabel's Canon in D, Just a Closer Walk, and the first movement of Ewald's Brass Quintet #1, along with some miscellaneous Christmas songs and fanfares. That's actually not bad for a group that was founded in the Fall of 1997!

We are a real organization, not (just) a mafia front, and have played at:

  • Make We Joy

  • TWO Easter services (one Protestant and one Catholic)
  • The Connecticut College Orchestra second spring concert
  • The Salvation Army (perhaps the most fun of all our gigs!)

If you are interested in early brass music, please check out my Pifarri Page.

I had a tough time finding sheet music over in here in the barbaric East. An excellent online resource for sheet music is Peppers. They have lots of brass quintet music, even if it is a bit on the pricey side.

E-mail the Kwintet!
