Welcome back!

Oct. 28, 2004

At our last meeting we talked about the trip to Mt. Greylock this past Sunday which was a lot of fun! We are also planning some fund raising events such as a raffle and selling Crispy Creme donuts. We will have more information on the donut booth in a few days which we will need people to help out with in Cro. Our next big trip is to the White Mountains. We are planning for Nov. 20-21st, Sat and Sunday. It is an overnight and we would be staying in one of the ACM huts which is like a cabin with bunks etc. Most likely the Zealand Hut. However in order to plan this we need to know how many people are seriously interested. If you are you need to email us back about this and\or come to the next meeting. For our next meeting on Tuesday we are going on a night walk to Mamacoke Island which is part of the arbo down by the AC. Meet in the usual place upstairs in Cro but at 9:30pm a little earlier than the usual time. The walk shouldn't be more than an hour. We'll send out a reminder also. Last but not least we have a speaker coming to talk about his experiences of the Appalachian Trail. He has just finished hiking from Maine to Georgia! He is coming to do a presentation on Nov. 19th in the evening. So mark your calendars.

We had a pretty low key meeting tonight. Many people we busy with work, midterms, meetings etc. But here is the update. 1. Kayaking in Wickford RI is not possible at this point because the rental places are closed. Sad. (I just found this out) But there may still be a chance to kayak in the river here at Conn. for those of you who took the swim and flip test. We'll let you know. 2. There is a hiking trip being planned for the 25th Sunday Oct. Save the date! We may have some people go up the night before and camp out if that seems of interest and then others could join them on Sunday. It is a 2 hour drive. We would leave before 9 and be back for dinner. Mt. Greylock is the highest mt. in MA. and a beauty! We'll be taking a count next week and at our next meeting of how many people want to go for the day and overnight possibly. Here is the link to get more info about the hike http://www.mountainsummits.com/mountains/massachusetts/greylock.html . 3. We made $265 at Harvest Fest! Thank you to all the people who helped at the booth. 4. If you would like to buy a T-shirt we still have some left. Let us know. 5. Most of you are taking off for fall break but Elissa and I are going out camping Wednesday so if any of you would like to come you are welcome. The Club has bags and sleeping pads etc which you can use. Let us know by email or call x4003

Thanks for coming to the meeting. For those of you that could not make it here is an update. The swim and flip test for kayaking is this Thursday at 8:30PM in the AC. Meet at the entrance. The purpose of the test is to make sure that you can swim and get out of a kayak should it flip. You do not need to be able to roll a kayak. If you want to be able to go on the kayaking trips in the future it is important that you try to make the test. IMPORTANT: If you are planning on coming on Thursday you need to email us back so we can hold a space for you. We have to cap it off at 12. Last weekend we sent out a bike trip to Bluff Point State Park which was great fun and a beautiful day on Sunday. We also sent out our first group to the rock gym on Friday. Alex will be keeping you posted about climbing trips. Harvestfest is this Saturday and we are looking for people to help at our booth for 1 hour shifts from 11-4. If you would like to sign up for a time please email us back. We would love your help. We are going to be selling great T-shirts, 3 different types! So you should all come check them out on Saturday.

There is a bike trip to Bluff Point this Sunday afternoon. We have one car and two bike racks so far. We'd love to find another car if there is enough interest. There are also 1 or 2 extra bikes so if you don't have a bike and can't borrow one from a friend email us. Bluff Point is about 7 miles of trails by the coast and not too hilly. Email us if you are interested in this trip. Kayaking is looking hopeful with the swim test most likely happening this Thursday around 8:30pm...so save the date. If that comes through there might be a kayak outing this Saturday afternoon. We'll keep you posted. Rockclimbing is starting this Friday evening. Alex will be sending out information about this. Most likely they will leave around 6:30 for 2 or 3 hours of climbing. Harvest Fest is next weekend and we ordered some HOT shirts. Camel+hump+climber....you'll see. Also we are going to sell smoothies or a hot drink. We are looking for people to run the booth for hour sections from 11-4 Sat. Oct 9th. (parents are welcome to help...or it could be an hour break from them...:o) You can email us and we'll have a signup sheet at the next meeting.

The kayaking swim and flip test will be happening this Thursday at 8:30pm. We will be in the main entrance of the AC (right in front of the bball courts) Wear your suit and shorts. We need to cap off the list at 10 so RSVP ASAP if you are interested to make sure you get a space! In order to go on the kayaks you need to have taken the test even though we suspect you can all swim;o) If you have any questions you can email us. If you can't make it this time hopefully we can work something out. There is an organic garden starting on campus which will be breaking ground this Thursday. If you want to come get dirty and have fun stop by Apt 360 (the plot is just to the left of that) anytime from 12:00-5:30pm. See you there. Also if you want to learn the basics of web design there is a workshop which club members are invited to. It is this Friday at 2:30 in the PC classroom in the library. We will be getting our web site started! Don't forget about the biking and rockclimbing opportunities this weekend. And have a great day everyone.
