Déjà view: two photos
When looking at one of the news photos in the summer magazine now at the printer, I kept going back to a shot of a group of students installing a wind monitor on campus last month. What was it about this shot that seemed so familiar? A quick Google search turned up this famous shot of soldiers raising a flag on Iwo Jima. It's funny how our minds store visual information, connecting two things that have absolutely nothing to do with one another just because they have the same composition. It reminds me of one of my favorite New Yorker cartoons. Two snails are looking at a roll of tape that has a somewhat snail-like shape. One says to the other "I don't care if she's a tape dispenser. I love her."
